With tourism season in full effect here in Paris, it hasn’t left me much time for wining and dining around this magnificent city. So when Jenny proposed a little weekend getaway, I thought it was well deserved. So we packed up our bags and jumped on the bus to Brussels.
Ahh Belgium, the land of mussels, fries, beers and waffles! And, indeed, we plunged into the world of these great delicacies. But after two jam-packed days of all of the above, it was time to bring some veg back into my life. On our last morning, as we were sauntering through the cobble stoned streets, we took a table under the sunshine at Peck 47 for some brunch. While chocolatey goodness had oozing down our chins on previous days, we decided to try a waffle of a new kind for our last feast.
The Veggie Peck’s Special came boasting with homemade Portobello mushroom waffles topped with creamy spinach, two poached eggs and the “house psycho sauce”. A hip twist on the classic eggs benny. When the plate came out, it was splattered with an electric orange sauce that resembled a Jackson Pollock gem. The staff wouldn’t give up their secret sauce recipe, but if my taste buds hit it right, it was a fun spin on Hollandaise sauce infused with a Thai red curry sauce. The eclectic mix of colours and flavours, it’s no wonder we could’ve licked the plate clean.
This quirky little cafe will lure you in with its colourful tables and staff, no doubt. And while there, it is completely necessary to spoil yourself with a jar of freshly squeezed watermelon, lemongrass and lime juice which will be sure to get you rehydrated after a night out at Delirium or that beer Jenny drank in the square just an hour before ;)
