Out of the tens of thousands restaurants in Paris, I’ve really been itching to grab a bite to eat at Miznon. Far from anything fancy, this little restaurant gives off the trendy, hipster vibe where you order at a counter from the menu scrawled over a blackboard behind it. The best way to describe it: a chic take away venue with its roots back in Tel Aviv. From the faade of Rue des Ecouffes, it looks like a small joint but if you follow your nose and blaring music down the corridor, you will find a dining area for a few close friends.
Now before I get into the food, let’s talk furnishings AKA the glorious mounds of fresh vegetables that are piled up all over the restaurant!! When you first walk up to MIznon, the first thing you will notice is the massive pile of juicy red tomatoes clustered in the front window. Then as you make your way inside, you can’t help but glance from the counter to the walls to the tables and hallway, your eyes twinkling in delight as they dance from the clusters of eggplant centrepieces to the baskets of onions to the bunches of garlic and leeks and roast cauliflower strewn around the kitchen. Then you perch your bottom on some vintage stools at a wooden table and peer into the open kitchen and watch the cooks make the magic happen. While snacking on some of their famous pita bread and dips, of course.
What Miznon are most well known for are their pita sandwiches and I could barely contain my excitement when deciding on which on to choose! I chose the lamb-stuffed cabbage pita which is essentially minced lamb cabbage rolls. The meat was so delicately wrapped in the in the silky, wilted cabbage leaves, doused perfectly with spices and sauce and topped off with fresh dill. My taste buds were doing back flips. And the pita bread...oh the pita bread. Freshly baked, straight out of the oven, so doughy and warm! Every element of this immaculate sandwich was literally finger-licking good.
As I glanced over at Leshae, as she took her last bites, all she could say was “Mmm GOOD”. So do yourself a favour, when in Paris, go to Miznon, the little Isreali sandwich tuck shop in the heart of the Marais. It surely won’t disappoint!
