I have recently started a Sunday night travelling dinner party club here in Paris for friends, colleagues and their loved ones. A simple concept: every week somebody different hosts dinner and I cook while friends help out if they please, chit chat and drink wine, then we all sit down for a nice meal together. It’s just a nice way to stay warm together and stay out of our local pub, the Dernier Metro, on Sunday nights.
A while back, I found this an article on Buzzfeed called “44 Classic French Meals You Need to Try Before You Die” which you can check out here. I have made it my goal to cook my way through this list over the course of winter. It’s great because many of these recipes are classic comfort foods from around the country that are guaranteed to warm you up on a crisp winter’s night. And then I thought, why not share these recipes with you, my readers?!
Dinner party #1 - Hachis Parmentier : A layer of mashed potatoes and a layer of juicy ground beef (or, as I like to call them, two layers of heaven). Hachis Parmentier is often described as a French version of shepherd’s pie. It is French comfort food at its best and it is fairly easy to prepare.
